Orientation

Orientation is a great way for your student to meet new classmates and discover useful information about the University. Orientation activities take place in the week or two leading up to the start of classes in early September, and on a smaller scale for students beginning in January.

University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM)

As the official welcome to University of Toronto Mississauga, Orientation provides your student with an introduction to life at UTM, and all the campus resources available to make transition into university a successful one.

O-Week is free for all new-to-UTM students! Attendance at O-Week is strongly encouraged. Upper year students will tell you that attending this week really helps with learning about the campus and making friends.

The International Centre (IC) at UTM runs Orientation sessions geared specifically to new international and exchange students. At these sessions, your student will have a chance to meet the staff of their international centre and their fellow international students. Please Note: The International Centre Orientation is different than “Frosh Week,” which is run by the University of Toronto Mississauga Students’ Union (UTMSU).

University of Toronto St. George (UTSG)

Faculty, college and residence orientations are a great opportunity for your student to connect with their college or faculty community; meet their new classmates, get the inside story on campus life and find out what resources are available to them. St. George Arts & Science students faculty orientation will be organized through your student’s college of registration. Residences also often run orientation activities. If your student is living in residence at their college, then this will be a part of their college orientation.

The University of Toronto Students’ Union (UTSU) holds various orientation events during the Orientation period. The Clubs Fair is one of these events, and it’s a great way for your student to find out about all the clubs and societies they can be a part of while they’re at U of T.

Kickstart is for students who are looking for an alternative or supplement to their college or faculty orientation, who are unable to attend their full orientation, or who would just like to explore more of what is available to them at U of T. By registering for the Kickstart program, your student is welcome to attend whatever interests them and fits in their schedule. They may choose to attend one, several or all of the events!

Step Up is a four-day, residential, pre-orientation program for international students that will prepare your student for their studies at U of T and transition to life in Canada. It’s a great way to make new friends and get ready for their first-year of University!

Starting graduate school in a new country and in a new university system can be a lot to navigate. Grad Step Up is a full-day event designed to help bridge this transition, your student can take part in sessions designed to help them become familiar with the expectations and resources available to students at U of T.

University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC)

The Scarborough Campus Students’ Union (SCSU) creates multiple platforms for students to interact with one another, their faculty, and their professors in a safe and inclusive environment. First year students will be able to learn and explore the ins and outs of university life from current student leaders. Orientation consists of a variety of events tailored to all students; from academic presentations and performances to parties and socials, followed by a massive parade downtown.

Student Housing & Residence Life coordinates an orientation program for first year students living in residence. The program includes opening ceremonies, key notes,speakers, entertainers, games and information sessions all designed to introduce each resident to the residence life program, to housemates and to fellow community members.

The International Student Centre (ISC) at UTSC runs Orientation sessions geared specifically to new international and exchange students. At these sessions, your student will have a chance to meet the staff of their international centre and their fellow international students. Please Note: ISC Orientation is different from the SCSU Frosh (i.e., Scarborough Campus Students’ Union Orientation).
